Abu Dhabi hotel rates squeezed by competition, JLL reports

More than 3,000 extra hotel rooms are due to enter the Abu Dhabi market by the end of 2016, according to a new report by property consultants JLL.

This will intensify pressure on room rates. According to the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (ADTCA), the average room rate in Abu Dhabi dropped 9 per cent in the first two months of 2014.

Abu Dhabi has a total of 149 hotels. The occupancy rate in February rose by 4 percentage points to 81 per cent in the year ending December 2013.

Trends in the UAE’s hotel industry will one of the top issues to be tackled at AHIC 2014, the two-day hotel investment conference organised by Bench Events and MEED which opens at the Madinat Jumeirah on 4 May. More than 500 people are expected.
