Saudi Arabia has made enormous green building progress, MEED conference told

Saudi Mega Projects

The Saudi Arabian building movement has made enormous progress since the Saudi Green Building Forum was launched in 2010, Saudi Mega Projects chairman Faisal Alfadl told MEED’s Saudi Mega Projects’ sustainability, energy efficiency and clean energy day this morning.

“We’ve been working for five years to set up our green building entity in Saudi Arabia,” Alfadl said. “Today, the Saudi Green Building Forum with its partners has many achievements in Saudi Arabia, regionally and internationally.”

The Saudi Green Building Foundation, a non-government and non-profit organization promoting sustainability in Saudi Arabia, has now been created, Alfadl said.

“It is a great vehicle to expand their own business and personal skills,” Alfadl said.  “We are pleased we represent the International Codes Council (ICC) and we are happy to work with them. We shall be setting up a code council in Saudi Arabia in Arabic.”

Alfadl said there are now more than 400 projects and planned projects with green building accreditation in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Mega Projects is being held the Riyadh Intercontinental Hotel on 8-10 December 2015. The strategic event partner is SABB; the gold sponsor is Conrac; the silver sponsor is Autodesk and the bronze sponsor is Pace. Viewpoint is lunch sponsor. The conference sponsors are Hill International; Aconex and Atheeb. Exhibitors are Sika, Salfo Engineering & Management Consultants, Arminox, PAL and Effat University.
