Saudi Aramco aims to increase the share of gas in the domestic energy mix to 70 per cent and could import gas to meet the kingdom’s needs, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said yesterday.

“Gas makes up 50 percent of our energy mix now and we aspire to raise this to 70 percent from all sources, be it local or, if it is possible, from a source to import from at a competitive price,” Al-Falih told a news conference in Jeddah announcing the kingdom’s National Transformation Plan.

Saudi Aramco processed 11.6 cubic feet a day of gas in 2015. All its gas is used in electricity generation and heavy industry.
