Baiji industrial complex too important for Baghdad to lose

The government of Iraq, working closely with US military advisers deployed this week at the request of embattled Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, will act quickly to recapture the Baiji refinery and power complex, security specialists in Dubai have told MEED. The campaign will probably involve long-distance air strikes by US ground attack aircraft, including bombers.

The strategically vital Baiji refining and power complex was captured by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (Isis) on 24 June after a three-week siege.
