Iran to increase power capacity by 35 per cent

Iran plans to increase its power generation capacity by 35 per cent from 74GW now to 100GW in 2020, Iran’s deputy energy minister Houshang Falahatian said today during a visit to the 11th International Energy Conference in Tehran.

He said that the Islamic republic exported 10bn kWh of power to neighbouring countries in the year earning March. That is equivalent to the production of a 1.1MW power station.

Iran’s has the second largest installed power generation capacity in the Middle East after Saudi Arabia.
