MEED conference told City Centre Commercial aims for 10 stores in Iraqi Kurdistan

City Centre Commercial Company, the Kuwait-based hypermarket group, plans to open up to 10 stores in Iraqi Kurdistan, the MEED Kurdistan Projects conference in Erbil was told today.

“We see opportunities, but there are challenges in the region in terms of logistics and retail space,” City Centre Commercial Company vice president David Wiles said.

The company opened its first hypermarket in Iraqi Kurdistan in Erbil’s Majidi Mall Shopping & Entertaining Centre in November 2009. It has since opened two more hypermarkets in the region. The three have combined floor space of 23,000 square metres.

MEED’s Kurdistan Projects 2014 Conference was organised in collaboration with the Kurdistan Regional Government, the KDBC and the UKTI. Taqa is strategic event partner. Conference sponsors are Drake & Scull, Falcon Group and Hill International. Jotun is exhibitor and Parsons is networking programme sponsor.
